Sensex jumps over 600 points, Nifty nears 23,450 as HCL Tech, Eternal lead gains
The BSE Sensex rose 0.76% to 74,858.99 and the Nifty 50 gained 0.29% to 23,414.30 on 21 September 2026, marking a recovery after six consecutive weeks of decline—the longest losing streak in six years. By early afternoon, the Sensex had climbed further to 74,981.88, up 686.92 points or 0.92%, while the Nifty 50 reached 23,464.25, up 117.85 points or 0.50%.
Twelve of the 16 major sectors advanced, with HCL Tech and Eternal leading the gains, though broader small-cap and mid-cap indices fell 0.1% and 0.3% respectively. The NSE’s $2.3 billion IPO was fully subscribed by Friday and closed later on Monday, drawing strong investor interest.
Oil prices dropped to their lowest in 11 days, driven by expectations of diplomatic progress at the UN meeting and a partial recovery in Saudi shipments, which offset concerns from Houthi attacks. The rupee ended marginally stronger, supported by lower oil prices and portfolio inflows, though sustained importer hedging limited its gains.
Regulatory and corporate developments included RBI granting perpetual validity to RNFI Money Pvt. Ltd.’s AD Category-II forex licence, now expanded to cover trade remittances, Nostro accounts, and forex correspondents.
