Godavari Biorefineries share jumps 13% on Chinese patent grant
Godavari Biorefineries' share price surged up to 13% to ₹258.87 on the NSE during Wednesday's trading session following the grant of a patent by the Chinese Patent Office. The patent, numbered ZL 2021 8 0048053.9 and published as CN 115867276 B, was officially granted on September 15, 2026, after being filed on May 10, 2021. It covers compounds that inhibit V-ATPase activity in cells and their application in producing medicines for viral infections. The patent is owned by the company, with inventors listed as M. Atawar, S. Gawade, P. Kakkar and S. Srivastava.
This development comes shortly after the company secured a patent from the Japan Patent Office in June 2026 for a compound used in cancer treatment. That Japanese patent, granted on May 26, 2026, relates to 5-Hydroxy-1,4-Naphthalenedione and its use in treating cancer, including breast and prostate cancer. The Japanese application was filed in October 2021 and named Sandeep Gavade, Sangeeta Srivastava, Prashant Karkal and Maithili Athavale as inventors.
On the financial front, Godavari Biorefineries reported a wider loss of ₹19.3 crore in Q1 FY27, compared to ₹16 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. EBITDA declined to ₹2.6 crore from ₹6.5 crore over the same period. However, total income rose to ₹559.9 crore in Q1 FY27, up from ₹534 crore in Q1 FY26.
The company, based in Maharashtra, produces bio-based chemicals, ethanol, sugar and power, serving industries such as food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, flavours and fragrances, fuel, personal care and cosmetics.
In recent trading, the stock gained 3.16% over the past week but remains down 0.51% over one month, 14.78% year-to-date and 16.62% over the past year.
